27-October is the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage! Let us celebrate the people who work hard to preserve and unlock our shared audiovisual memory.

Film, video and sound recordings document irretrievable moments. They preserve past voices, languages, cultural expressions, and perspectives that help us to navigate our world today and tomorrow.

Making these collections available again takes continuous hard work in conservation and digitisation.

But this is not enough.

Audiovisual heritage also needs to be discoverable, accessible and presented in context, with its origins and preservation history documented.

For 30 years, Cube-Tec has supported audiovisual archives with technology for inspection, quality control, and digitisation. Our contribution is to help archive professionals make informed decisions and manage the workflows behind long-term preservation.
Today, we recognise the archivists, conservators, technicians and everyone working behind the scenes to make these collections available for future generations.

Because preserving a recording also means preserving the opportunity to discover it, understand it, and learn from it. To tell its story, the recording needs to be accessible as a digitised file in its original and unmodified form. It should even provide proof of its authenticity by cryptographic means.

Thanks to the latest technology, this is now possible even for the world's largest audiovisual collection.
Also, thank you to Cinematek, Belgium, for the wonderful archive walk clip that we used in our video.
