What is Preservation Technologies doing and how does this relate with The MediaPreserve?

Preservation Technologies started in 1992 after a long research project to come up with the Deacidification process to preserve books and documents for the Library of Congress. After we contracted with them for over 10 years they began to discuss the problem of deteriorating audio, video and film and encourage us to investigate that. After a 3 year investigation period we form The MediaPreserve, and we grew from two employers to now being one of the largest media companies in the world. We digitize over 10.000 assets a week for movie companies, for sports teams, for libraries, archives. One of the marked key projects we have done is the entire Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, which was made into a very successful documentary film last year. In addition to that we were working with large broadcast organisations."

Why did The MediaPreserve decide to invest in QUADRIGA•Video systems from Cube-Tec?

We had been using QUADRIGA•Audio for 10 years, we also had other products we were using to capture video. Those products were getting older. They weren't as flexible as we wanted them to be. And we decided it was time to purchase a new suite of software for the video studios. We naturally looked at QUADRIGA because of the success we had with audio. And we love the product because it was built for the archival market, it is flexible, it allowed us to scale-up to meet what we believe is an ever-increasing market. Today we are able to do over 10,000 assets a week using QUADRIGA•Video."

The MediaPreserve is using QUADRIGA•Video systems already for a while in client projects. Now you are ordering more. Can you shine some light into this?

We currently purchased 8 QUADRIGA ingest systems, our plans are to order 32 more. We have ordered 16 which we expect to be installed within the next four weeks and subsequent to that we will get the next shipment of 16. The reason we are buying 32 of these is because The MediaPreserve is expanding rapidly. We need a capture system that will allow us to capture various formats of video, at the same time allow us to output various digital files for our clients."

From your point of view, what was the reason for The MediaPreserve to decide for the QUADRIGA system from Cube-Tec?

We have been using the QUADRIGA•Audio solution since 2007 and we are extremely happy with that, so it was a logical choice to move to the QUADRIGA•Video solution. We knew there are less expensive options out there, but the quality monitoring and the efficiency we get from this tool made it and obvious choice."

Which features of QUADRIGA are the most important for you?

We need tools that we can trust. We know that the QUADRIGA system is the Gold Standard within the archival community. So, it gives both us and our clients confidence knowing the that those are the tools being used at The MediaPreserve. If we need customizable output we know that the QUADRIGA support team is able to supply us with any media format that we need as our output file."

QUADRIGA products are known to scale nicely to large factory workflows. It seems the system scalability was also an important reason to choose QUADRIGA?

The future holds some very challenging growths for us. We recently acquired some very large contracts that gonna need a lot of parallel lines of ingest here at The MediaPreserve. About 6 months ago we purchased our first 8 lines of QUADRIGA•Video ingest. We recently ordered another 16 lines because we are so happy with them. We hope in the next year we do expand to upwards 40 lines of parallel ingest using the QUADRIGA solution."

What are the most important benefits of the QUADRIGA system?

I’ve used a lot of systems in my 12 years here at The MediaPreserve. The automation, the efficiency and the confidence I have in using this system, makes it the only tool I want to use moving forward, for all my video capture as well as audio."

Form the operational point of view - what do you see as the main benefits?

The benefits of the QUADRIGA system with its high efficiency automation allows us to give us a sufficiently better product to our client.
The additional benefits of QUADRIGA its flexibility, its ability to adapt to different circumstance that come across our business and the workflow changing allows us to adapt to that significantly faster with the QUADRIGA system."

Can you be more specific, what are the features of QUADRIGA•Video what help you most?

The benefits to the QUADRIGA system are its ability to catch and determine of playback issues from the deck directly to the capture system.
The capture system itself is very easy to use the interface is awesome, it allows us to enrich our metadata very simply, to add the information that was caught in the system and add that to our metadata collection. Normally the system would not be able to catch those errors based on human eye not catching those issues.
The benefits of the QUADRIGA•Video system is its ability to collect metadata, it allows us to enrich our metadata, flexible workflow, easy to use system; and allows us to be much more efficient, and give the client a better product."

Why do you like to work with the QUADRIGA•Video system?

The things I like that I like about the QUADRIGA is its parallel use in our systems, it’s easy to use; the interface is very simple, our operators adapted to it very simply, it's just an all around good product."

How is your experience with the Cube-Tec support for the QUADRIGA systems?

The support from the manufacture has been great, we had nothing but success with them. It's easy to get a hold of, and they adapt to our demands very easily and quickly."
