Cube-Tec @ AMIA 2026

Cube-Tec will be at the AMIA conference again this year.
This time Tom Lorenz (Managing Partner, Cube-Tec) will give a presentation again, date and time will soon be revealed.

The topic will be "Innovative Film Inspection Streamlines Preservation at the Library of Congress".
Following is an abstract of what you can expect from this presentation:

This presentation outlines initial experiences with the practical application of a transformative inspection scanning technology, at the Library of Congress, that enables large film collections to be assessed and digitized without the need for prior manual photochemical restoration.

Each film reel yields a digital access copy in near-2K resolution, covering the entire film edge to edge. Condition reports are generated largely automatically and document degradation and usage defects such as vinegar syndrome, fading of dyes, shrinkage, leaching of plasticizers, mold, poor splices and damage to the perforations.

The transport mechanism reflects a completely new generation in its gentle handling and allows inspection to begin without preparation – even with damaged, warped or spliced reels. The Library of Congress has introduced this Inspection Scan system from Cube-Tec, and initial operational experiences will be presented jointly.

More information about Cube-Tecs work at the Library of Congress can be seen in this article.
