SLUB Project completed - Retrodigitization with QUADRIGA Video

The State Library in Dresden (SLUB) is entrusted by the Free State of Saxony with the implementation of the Safeguarding of the Audiovisual Heritage in Saxony. Within this framework, analog film, video, and audio documents (AV media) are digitized on a large scale by external service providers in order to subsequently make them publicly accessible on the SACHSEN.digital platform.

For the SLUB project, Cube-Tec extended the existing QUADRIGAVideo workflow. It starts with the quality-monitored migration of Betacam SP video cassettes using the QUADRIGA Video workstation. This is followed by a post process workflow which was extended to generate the required format variants automatically.

During the creation of preservation and access files, additional text frames with information requested by the customer had to be integrated into the video stream. As the workflow had to handle the ingest of compilation tapes chapter marks had to be applied to the streams for easier navigation as well.

As usual, additional MD5 checksums were also included, so that the integrity of the delivered video files can be checked automatically at any time.

In addition to that, a hash code for each single frame of the preservation file had to be inserted enabling the spotting of the exact location in the media file where a hash code and the integrity is damaged.

The work was conducted by one of Germany's well-known digitisation service providers under the supervision of Peter Zenk.

Peter Zenk has worked with Cube-Tec for several years in projects for the German Broadcasting Archive and the German National Library, for organisations such as the German National Library, and regularly uses Cube-Tec's software products for quality control in the digitisation of audiovisual media.

I appreciate the cooperation with Cube-Tec very much, not only because of the extensive detailed knowledge of the Cube-Tec team, but especially because of the fast and professional implementation of special customer requirements."
