German Public Broadcaster SR goes for QUADRIGA factory approach

Speed Up Migration and add Quality Supervision

Saarländischer Rundfunk is a public radio and television broadcaster for the German Bundesland of Saarland, with its headquarters in the Broadcasting House Halberg in Saarbrücken. SR is a member of the ARD. After many years of analogue tape digitization according to the strict guideline of aurally validating all sound material in a one-to-one transfer, the decision was made to use a quality-controlled factory approach in order to dramatically speed up the digitization throughput. Following the Bavarian Broadcast, SR decided to install the QUADRIGA system, employing a remote control for the Studer and Telefunken tape machines.

On addition Calibration-Inspector will be utilized to secure and document the error-free playback condition of the tape machines. QUADRIGA will be employed to migrate the analog audio tapes. The module automatically flags critical issues for aural supervision. Post processing is handled in a DOBBIN Server implemented as virtual machine which performs flexible, metadata-driven workflows in order to optimize sound levels and automatically flags critical issues for aural supervision.

For aural inspection, a supervisor can open the preservation audio files in a sound editor workstation without having to wait for the calculation of the waveform level file. Quality metadata is also directly accessible to the supervisor, including sample-accurate timecodes as Wavelab markers.
