All Cube-Tec tools were very impressive from the very first tests. Since then, they've become my first reference when talking about mastering and restoration. The processing quality, versatility and the practical appeal of the VPIs made the tools excellent not only for the professional usage but also for teaching purposes.

Cube-Tec's RepairFilter and DeBuzz filter established themselves as essential tools while working on a recent documentary. Much of the dialogue was recorded in a machine shop, with lathes and milling machines running in the background. Using the RepairFilter and DeBuzz filter I was able to selectively and precisely remove most of the distracting resonant frequencies from these machines. This not only made the dialogue much more intelligible, but saved some interviews from being either sub-titled or edited out completely.

In the past I have used several de-noising and restoration plugins to get location sound free of undesirable elements such as camera noise, hiss and buzz. Usually all of them were reasonably effective at removing most of the noise, but they left clearly audible artifacts. Voices sounded so metallic and unnatural that it would have been better to leave it alone and accept the noise than to de-noise them with those inadequate plugins. Using Cube-Tec's SpectralDeHiss Expert in combination with RepairFilter and DeBuzz enables me to work with a much higher level of precision than any other plugins, and even when using extreme settings a voice still sounds like a voice because there are no artifacts.

At Dallas Audio Post Group the Cube-Tec's VPI's have become THE choice for audio restoration and noise reduction. All other noise reduction systems and plug-ins are now either powered off or have been moved to the "unused plug-ins" folder. The Cube Tec VPI's have recently been employed to clean up dialogue on a feature, and to restore location audio that was recorded in many difficult locations across the globe for a corporate client. The VPI's are simply outstanding. They clearly out-perform anything else on the market; Great performance, no nasty artifacts and a great value. What more could we ask for?

'Cube-Tec's SpectralDeHiss completely saved a section of unusable production dialog in a recent feature film done here at Chace. The track contained some complex high-frequency ringing that moved up and down the frequency spectrum at random. By taking a few sections of the program in between dialog and having the De-Hiss learn them I was able to create a very accurate noise analysis. I adjusted the "Frequency Smoothing" parameter in the noise floor section to 0 so that it would use the most detailed noise profile and adjusted the multi-band Noise Reduction Equalizer to really focus in on the frequency ranges that I needed to address. The result: a ring-free dialog track that maintained the vibrant quality of the dialog without any audible artifacts.'

'At Buttons Sound we specialize in audio post for television, radio and film - including HDTV and 5.1 cinema mixing, so we encounter a wide variety of noise problems and are expected to provide solutions. A recent 30 episode TV project for a major production company presented us with some very challenging RF mic noise problems. After trying everything in our extensive arsenal of Pro Tools plugins, we turned to Cube-Tec's DeBuzz which we had recently purchased. It not only completely removed the RF noise - it did so without artifacts, and without sucking the life out of the track. We then utilized Cube-Tec's SpectralDeHiss tool to remove ambient noise from outdoor scenes with equal success.'

'As engineer for the Grateful Dead, I use several noise reduction plug-ins to deal with the problems of older analog masters. Recently, I had a particularly difficult problem to solve.drum tracks recorded 20 db down in the mud. I was given a demo of SpectralDeHiss Expert for Pro Tools by Jeff Briss at Cutting Edge Audio. After I received a brief overview of operation, I was able to remove more hiss and leave more ambiance than I could with any of my other noise removal systems. 'Clients often supply source material which is less than ideal. Effective noise removal without the introduction of noise removal artifacts during our post production workflow is essential. During a recent project a client supplied 8 hours of voice recordings with clocking error clicks. Re-recording was not an option. Using the De-clicker and De-Scratcher I was able to remove all the clicks, with no audible damage to the source recording... I was truly amazed. All products should work this well.'
