The DOBBIN system offers the possibility to merge external metada via the Metadata Merger element. The used structur of these data is widely corresponding to the Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) of the European Broadcasting Union and also to the ID3v2 Format. Most common data bases offers export of metadata in XML Formats, that can be easily edited. In case, the data base doesn't have such possibilities, a conversion interface has to be plugged between the data base and the DOBBIN system.

The input files that are to be merged must have the same file title for this to be possible. This means that an audio file should be accompanied be a correspondingly named metadata file. For example, an audio input file may be named Track01.wav, and should be merged with the metadata file Track01.imp.xml or Track01.id3.xml.
